Eureka Soft Launch

Things have been going well with Eureka. We've been laser-focused on the product over the last couple months, making it easy to correctly complete an experiment and get clear, rigorous, interesting insights into your health afterwards. Our beta testers have been a huge help. My calendar is still rather full with user onboarding, but we’re working on automating that to unlock the next level of scale.

The team is looking very healthy, too. We're now up to 7(!) full timers: Zain and I, a designer, two engineers, a data scientist, and an ops generalist, all of whom bring deep experience from some of the top companies and institutions around. We also have three fantastic contract engineers in Ukraine who have really gone above and beyond throughout the war. Despite us imploring them to not worry about work, they haven’t missed a beat. We're super grateful and will definitely find a way to continue supporting and thanking them.

So now we have some funding, a team, and a product. Now we just need users! We've been intentionally holding back on growth until the product is more built out (so I don't have to work 80 hour weeks just running everyone's experiments), but the time is right to start to scale up and see whether more people care about what we're building. Growth is going to be a beast to solve, and it's going to be fun figuring it out.

We’ve also chosen Long Covid as our initial launch community. Why? It’s very prevalent (millions in the US), severe, underserved, quickly changing, and has a very engaged community that’s actively experimenting and trying to figure out what to do. It’s also a gateway to a whole world of “medical mysteries”, including ME/CFS, POTS, MCAS, fibromyalgia, and others, with highly overlapping communities and interventions, so there’s lots of depth to explore.

We're starting small, humbly engaging people in the Long Covid community to give feedback, test the product, and if they find it useful, share it with their friends. If we provide this first wave with a great experience and real value (ideally with very interesting experiment results), we hope the app will spread from there.
